A Warm Cup, A Welcoming Community: Sharing Hot Chocolate with Our Seafarers and Fishers

A simple cup of hot chocolate became a meaningful moment of warmth, friendship, and solidarity with our seafarers and fishers. Together with the Parroquia Ntra. Sra. Asunción y Madre de los Migrantes, we shared food, conversations, laughter, and a welcoming sense of community—reminding those far from home that they are seen, valued, and cared for. Through moments like these, we continue building a home of humanity and hope.

On a chilly day, sometimes the simplest gestures can make the greatest difference.

A warm cup of hot chocolate, a shared meal, a conversation, or simply knowing that someone is there to welcome you can bring comfort—especially for those who spend much of their lives far from home.

Recently, we had the joy of gathering with our seafarers and fishers for a warm and meaningful time of fellowship. What began as a simple invitation to share hot chocolate became an opportunity to connect, listen, laugh, and remind one another that no one should feel forgotten or alone.

For those who work at sea, long periods away from family and familiar surroundings can bring unique challenges. In these moments, creating a welcoming space where people can find friendship, support, and a sense of community is at the heart of our mission.

More Than a Cup of Hot Chocolate

The gathering was simple: hot chocolate, food, conversation, and good company. Yet its meaning went far beyond what was served.

For our seafarers and fishers, moments like these provide an opportunity to step away from the demands of work and experience something that can be difficult to find while at sea—a sense of home.

Around the table, conversations flowed naturally. There was laughter, companionship, and the quiet comfort of being among people who care. These shared moments remind us that hospitality is not simply about providing something to eat or drink. It is about making people feel seen, welcomed, valued, and cared for.

A Community That Opens Its Doors

This gathering was made possible through the generous support of Parroquia Ntra. Sra. Asunción y Madre de los Migrantes, whose team lovingly prepared the food for the occasion.

Their generosity reflects something at the heart of our mission: care becomes more meaningful when it is shared.

Through collaboration and community support, we can create spaces where migrants, refugees, seafarers, fishers, and others who may find themselves far from home know that they have a place where they are welcome.

The warmth of the gathering was not only in the cups of hot chocolate. It was in the willingness of people to come together, open their doors, share what they have, and make room for one another.

Building a Home of Humanity and Hope

Our mission is built on the belief that every person deserves dignity, companionship, and a sense of belonging.

For people working at sea, that commitment can take many forms: offering a listening ear, providing practical support, welcoming someone into the community, celebrating together, or simply being present when they need someone to talk to.

These may seem like small things, but they can have a lasting impact.

A moment of connection can ease the loneliness of being far from family. A friendly conversation can restore a sense of belonging. A welcoming community can remind someone that, even while they are far from home, they are not alone.

This is how a home of humanity and hope is built—not only through large initiatives, but through countless acts of kindness and solidarity.

Thank You for Sharing the Warmth

We are grateful to all the seafarers and fishers who joined us and made the gathering so special. We are equally grateful to everyone who helped prepare, welcome, serve, and share in this moment of community.

Your presence matters.

As we continue accompanying people on the move and those who work at sea, we invite others to become part of this mission. Your support can help us continue creating welcoming spaces, strengthening relationships, and offering companionship to people who are often far from their families and communities.

Be Part of the Mission

There are many ways to help: join us, share our work, offer your time, support our initiatives, or help spread the word about the needs of migrants, refugees, seafarers, and fishers.

Together, we can continue creating places where people feel welcomed, respected, and cared for.

Because sometimes, building hope begins with something as simple as a warm cup, an open door, and someone who is willing to sit down and share it with you.
