Our Story

The Scalabrinian missionaries arrived in Uruguay in 1962 to support migrants. Over the years, their mission grew- from accompanying internal migrants in Las Piedras, to founding the Italian Catholic Mission in Montevideo in 1976, and establishing the Parish Our Lady of the Assumption and Mother of Migrants in 1983.

In 2005, the migrant shelter Casa de Acogida San Juan Bautista Scalabrini was blessed, offering a place of welcome and support.

Today, we continue this mission through the Migrant Support Center, where we provide assistance with legal documents, residency, housing, job search, and cultural integration. We also offer spiritual support to help migrants feel at home.

Our mission is to accompany migrants and refugees in their journey toward a dignified life, offering guidance, support, and a welcoming space where they are respected, empowered, and embraced as part of a shared community of care and belonging.

Our Mission

Our vision is a society where migrants are no longer strangers, but neighbors where borders do not divide hearts, adn where every person on the move find justice, compassion, and the opportunity to flourish in peace.

Our Vision

Through our services, we aim to accompany and support migrants in every stage of their journey, offering not just help, but dignity, belonging, and a welcoming community they can rely on.

Providing temporary accommodation for the most vulnerable migrants, along with essential aid such as food baskets, personal hygiene kits, clothing, and blankets.

Delivering psychosocial support and spiritual assistance, including the celebration of devotional festivals for each community.

Offering guidance on migrants’ rights and responsibilities, help with CV writing to access the labor market, training workshops, and cultural integration initiatives.

Hearts Behind The Mission

Behind the Casa de Acogida San Juan Bautista Scalabrini are people committed to walking alongside migrants and refugees. With compassion and understanding, our team provides support, guidance, and a sense of belonging for those starting over in a new land.
